Levi Love - Benefit Skate ContestPosted on August 26th, 2008 +Add a Comment »
|
On Saturday I was lucky enough to see a large amount of the skate industry come together in support of a fallen shredder. Levi Huffman suffered a severe head injury on International Go Skate Day, he was in the ICU for weeks. The reason that so many people came together for Levi is his amazing character. I have a huge amount of respect or Levi, he is the kind of person who will go out of his way to help anyone he can.Like how he takes a group of little skate groms to a different skatepark that they wouldn’t normally have access to each week. Every time I skate with Levi he goes out and teaches someone something new or give them the confidence in themselves to do more than they thought the could. Levi and his fiancée are expecting their first child later this year, he will be an amazing father. On the 12th Board Cartel put together a skate contest along with Woodward to raise money for Levi and his family. The people at Cartel got everyone they could involved and before we knew it there were over 20 sponsors sending product to help Levi. Product from Circa, Fallen, Mystery, Zero, Black Box, Anon, Nixon, Oakley, Element, RVCA, Bern helmets, Neff, Etnies, and boardpusher.com. |

Here’s the latest trailer about the Maloof Cup that is going down this July. If you’re not aware what the Maloof Cup is, then you need to wake up! It’s a skateboarding contest that is going to be giving away 100K to the #1 street skateboarder. The street course, to be made in Las Vegas, will be specifically designed for street skateboarding and will not feature some lame X-Games quarterpipe crap. This is the real deal, and it has been recently picked up by a national network for live coverage, just like a legit sport. |

Andrew Reynolds Joins NixonPosted on June 24th, 2008 +Add a Comment »

Andrew Reynolds joins an elite crew of skateboarders on Nixon Watches. The official Nixon website revealed today that Andrew Reynolds is the latest skateboarder signed to the watch giant and will have his own style and flavor embedded into a new watch line up. This comes as great news for Reynolds, with his new Deathwish project launching out of Baker, and the new Emerica shoes which some say could have “lights” on them. (according to recent ads) Andrew Reynolds has been doing some great things lately, and this could be seen as another piece to the puzzle. Altamont & Nixon…now that’s a collaboration that has money written all over it. |

Featured skateboarding on Ace of Cakes. Here’s the footage: |

Sean Malto has been on a roll as of late, first going Pro and now landing the cover of Slap Magazine. The Magazine has some 17+ odd pages of Sean Matlo talking about everything from skateboarding to personal life. Slap Magazine hasn’t exactly been my favorite magazine for a long time, but it’s still doing quite well in regards to promoting art and skateboarding in a seamless fashion. Check out the issue at newsstands now. |

Growing up skateboarding, I always wanted to ollie the highest. I could never land it very high, however, I was always able to ollie onto things, and over things, just couldn’t do it stationary. Or just for the sake of an ollie, but give me an obstacle and I could throwdown quite a bit. Earlier this year, the World Ollie Record was broken, and here is the footage to prove it: |

Ryan Sheckler In Men’s FitnessPosted on June 12th, 2008 +Add a Comment »
|
Ryan Sheckler is enjoying a nice mainstream push, and is crossing over from being strickly a skateboarder by occupation. We saw this happen to Tony Hawk, with his whole push towards being in commercials for Hershey’s, Dorito’s, and now with T-Mobile. Sheckler has been on a different path, and continually pushes skateboarding wherever he is, and while I am not the biggest Ryan Sheckler fan, he’s getting into places where skateboarders really never get exposure in. |

Not bad, but will Tony Hawk’s sidekick be able to overcome the new Iphone that is supposedly coming out later this summer? |

Girl Distribution, has opened up their own online store. This of course cuts out the middle man of sorts, and creates a new market for skateboarding brands to sell directly to customers. The skateboarding e-commerce giants won’t exactly be too thrilled to see that Girl Distro is selling their products at near cost for many smaller skateboard shops. The site is built in yahoo’s shopping cart and doesn’t look too user friendly, but customers that use the site will be glad to know that they are getting products directly from the source, no salesman, and no middle man involved. |

Finally, Nintendo fans can get a piece of the EA skate action. EA’s video game broke major ground in skateboarding video games, by introducing a more “realistic” skateboarding experience. Many of us have played Tony Hawk’s skateboarding video games, and are quick to note the anti-realism that is found in a lot of the gameplay. Even the latest version “Proving Ground”, with all its steps toward becoming a more “simulation” style video game, was just not that good. |
