Does it Offend You, Yeah?

Does it offend you, yeah? is a band we are hyping on right now. The British electro-rock band is made up of four members and have been compared to Daft Punk, Justice and Digitalism to name a few. They have also been known to remix songs for major acts like Muse and Bloc Party. These guys are just getting start and we are hoping they will stick around for a long time to come.
Have a listen to the track below: It’s available for free download at doesitoffendyou.com

The Drift "Memory Drawings"

The Drift
Memory Drawings
Temporary Residence
The Drift’s Memory Drawings recall the spirit of 1969. Part Miles Davis’ fusion Jazz recording Bitches Brew, part Led Zeppelin II, Memory Drawings combines funky jazz with album-oriented rock. The San Francisco four-piece consisting of Rich Douthit, Danny Grody, Jeff Jacobs and Safa Shokrai possesses a maturity beyond their three years playing together. This is a result of each band member’s numerous side projects, the one which you are most likely to know being Grody’s other band Tarentel. My favorite song on the album is the ballad “Lands End”, with a flange-y guitar and sad trumpet playing. Eventually the music stops, leading to a breakdown of water falling and a dog barking. When the guitar comes back in, it does not overpower its solo, but instead shares the duty of main soloist with the trumpet. It is this balance of trumpet and guitar that gives the band its unique sound of rock-influenced jazz, or perhaps jazz-influenced rock. The echoing, reverb, and other studio mixing techniques add an even more complex element to the music, making it sound professional and analog like late sixties recordings. Overall, this is a great album for relaxation on a rainy day. – Jonathan Mendick, Mannerist Zine

J'Davey "The Beauty In Distortion/Land of the Lost EP"

J’Davey
The Beauty In Distortion/Land of the Lost EP
Interdependent Media
You may have heard of J*Davey from their collaboration with The Roots on the album Game Theory. Subsequent production by Amir ?uestlove Thompson, The Roots’ drummer, has propelled the band to new heights. One part female vocalist Jack Davey, and one part male musician extraordinaire Brook D’Leau, J*Davey is a confusing androgynous amalgam of audio. Add the fact that Jack Davey has a Mohawk and you already know that the band is bold. But you merely need to dive in and listen to learn that. The Beauty In Distortion/Land of the Lost EP is a double disc where J*Davey explores a large sonic landscape. Covering grounds everywhere between Electronica and Soul, the band is also not unlikely to be categorized as hip-hop or rock. More importantly J*Davey explores new ground on their Beauty demo, while rekindling memories of older styles in their EP. “No More”, a track off the Beauty record is a sexy love song where Jack offers her complete submission. Over the funky beat she claims “I don’t even care no more/ you can have whatever you want/ You can take me/ and you can do whatever you want.” This double disc is a taste of something wonderful. –Jonathan Mendick, Mannerist Zine

Lupe Fiasco and N.E.R.D. are bringing art and music together for one sick collaboration. Recently both Lupe Fiasco and N.E.R.D. were involved in a cover project for Complex Magazine that featured artwork from REAS and KAWS. Complex thought it would be cool to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how it all went down by releasing a couple videos that feature the making of the covers. Pretty interesting stuff.Check out more about this on Hypebeast

Support The Green Album

Our homey Omer Saar from Universoul Productions has a dope project going on and it’s for a good cause. You don’t find too many people these days doing this, so listen up…
“THE GREEN ALBUM is a project I’ve had mostly finished for 3 years now. It’s a full-length Hip-Hop remix album over all Al Green sample-made beats. It will be the first official music project I have shared with the world. I truly love it and I want to share it with as many people as possible. Most of the songs being remixed come from hip hop’s “golden era.” Artist such as De La Soul, Mos Def, Big L, Ghostface, Method Man, Notorious B.I.G., Pharcyde, Nas, AZ, Pharoahe Monch, Fugees, Jay-Z, Das Efx, Mobb Deep, and Busta Rhymes. I added a few other artists that I’m a fan of such as MF DOOM, Saukrates, and FINALE. I will almost definitely make a few more tracks in addition to those.”
The Green Album will be released on May 27th here. Make set a reminder to check it out.
Profits from this project go to a great non-profit foundation called STAY TRUE, which was founded by Omer’s brother Nir Saar. Their mission is to increase social awareness and engagement of those students that are most affected by the ailments of society.
Seshn fully suppors Omer and the Stay True Foundation. You should do the same!

Sony Rolly Hitting U.S. Stores

Just what everyone needs, some new thing to waste even more precious time with… But that’s the fun of it right? Sony has just released a product called Rolly and it is now available at all Sony stores in the United States after initially being released in Japan.
This 2GB MP3 ball of music, moves when you play your tunes and is pretty rad to say the the least. Although, it does look like it could get a little annoying after awhile. I really don’t know if these will catch on in the U.S.. Check out the video below to see how this musical robotic wonderment works.

NERD's 'Everyone Nose' About The Yayo?

‘Skateboard P’ and NERD have just released a video to their new single, ‘Everyone Nose’. Now it doesn’t take a very intelligent person to realize that this song is about the Yayo. The video features skanky girls going in and out of bathrooms, sweating and wiping their nostrils. If you have the time to watch the video, you will also notice appearances by Kanye West, Lindsay Lohan and Corey Kennedy.
So here’s the question, is Pharrell and the NERD crew, pro or anti-drugs? It’s hard to tell but this video is LAME.

The Dandy Warhols Comeback Again

]
I admit, the Dandy Warhols were cool a while back, and then I saw the movie “Dig!” and I thought the band was a bunch of lousy whining idiots. Meanwhile, I started to listen to their arch rivals, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and then snapped out of it when the new Living Sacrifice Album came out.
But after a long stint in musical limbo, of sorts, the Warhols are back with new music and a tour of the earth that actually likes them.
The new album will be streamed first to their loyal fans via their website, and released in physical form through their very own label. If you’re interested in all that…check out the official Dandy Warhols website, and if you’re lucky see them on tour.
I saw them recently, and they aren’t half bad…which means they aren’t half good either.

New Metallica Album Leak

Metallica has been working on a new album, and has given a trailer with a little clip of sounds…and the metal nation is buzzing. Could this be a return to form for the guys? Is this going to be better than St. Anger?
Or will this be another “Some Kind of Monster” moment and ruin whatever credibility that Metallica has left?
Time will tell.
The video below is only a taste…and it’s not much to go by, but it is the first leak of its kind.

Metallica is up to something...but what?

Metallica is up to something. Seriously, they are up to something, but does anyone know what? Their latest effort to get more “with it” is to allow their fans instant gratification, but what is it exactly?
Apparently a new album is in the works, and you can be the first one to hear it, or maybe you’ll see a video of it…or maybe they’ll show a video, or maybe their therapist is going to jump in and write lyrics for them…
maybe it’s nothing, maybe it’s something….
Whatever the case is, Metallica has to step up their game, because a lot of fans are waiting to see if they are going to continue to suck.
Here’s the latest…….are you in? Mission:Metallica is live.

Atmosphere Breaks Traditional Release Methods

Atmosphere, the independent hip hop group, has done something really cool. Instead of just whining and complaining about the music industry not making money on cd sales, the record label and himself made things a little more creatively. This video shows how a unique idea can create interest in picking up a hard copy of the record, rather than just the mp3’s or whatever. I’m not making a whole lot of sense, but this video shows why you might want to pick up the new Atmosphere record, instead of downloading it.

Iron Maiden Vans Shoe Collaboration

Iron Maiden Vans Shoe Collaboration

It’s not secret that Iron Maiden has been one of the front runners in Metal music for a long time now. While other people int he metal genre (metallica) have been known to get old and stale, and hire shrinks to write lyrics for them, we can trust that Iron Maiden is still kicking out the jams.

With this latest collaboration with Vans shoes, they bring another relic alive, and look to crossover their appeal for music and culture with reckless abandon. These shoes will hit stores roughly around “Holiday 08″ and are already the talk of metal maniacs worldwide.

System of a Star Wars Idea

Apparently Serj Tankian has seen Star Wars way too much! He has a plan to save the world that consists of holographic media performances, rather than going on tour.
I for one, will NOT under any circumstances pay for a hologram of anyone playing anything. I’d rather feel the connection with my fellow music lover at a venue, sweat it out, and sing along with my favorite bands, and artists.
I know Serj is thinking about the whole global warming thing, but this just seems a bit far fetched. One thing is for sure, Serj Tankian, has managed to pop up in major news sources like yahoo.com, if that is even viable any longer. Star Wars eh? I’m sure I got the geeks to check in now, too bad it’s metal related.

U2 signs major deal

U2 signs major deal

The guys in U2 have reason to celebrate this morning, as they have just signed a 12 year deal with concert promoters Livenation. There was an undisclosed amount of money that will promise the guys in U2 will not be broke any time soon. This of course does not change the deal that U2 has with Universal Music, and will still release music through that major label. However, Livenation will handle online branding and distribution of the rock group.
This of course is interesting considering the rumors of Motley Crue signing a similar deal with Livenation. Whatever the case is, Rock music and mega bands like U2 are still major revenue sources for major labels and those interested in the band as a whole.
So all those news reports about the music industry dying, might have not counted on major deals with bands like U2.

Justice of the Unicorns "Angels With Uzi's"

Justice of the Unicorns
Angels With Uzi’s
Little Lamb
Justice of The Unicorns is the numinous music project of New York’s Rusty Dungan and troop. As the name of this band implies, Justice of the Unicorns is a tavern band with a penchant for fantasy tales and magical verse. The meddling theme of Angels With Uzi’s doesn’t give the band much promise of permanence, but maybe with lines like “In your dreams, the wild tiger’s eyes creep upon you in the forest,” their intentions are to do nothing more than endorse a chuckle. Like Thurston Moore singing the story line of David Bowie’s Labrynth, the novelty may be more compelling than the aptitude. This album juxtaposes blues and folk with contemporary synthetics and digital instrumentation to accompany you and your imaginary Might Be Giant on your journey to the land of Zorcon. – Kelly D. Williams, Mannerist Zine

Elvis Costello Ditches Cd

Elvis Costello has officially abandoned future cd releases. The legendary musician has decided to release music through digital and vinyl formats only. It seems odd to release those two, but it does speak volumes about demographics in general. Taking that into consideration, people either buy digital media for their mp3 players, or they buy vinyl to collect. This might be the smartest thing I’ve heard in a long time, or it could be a dumb move, but whatever the case is, the cd is not looking to great right now.

I’m not sure why they drew so much comparison, considering that Portishead is not allowing a free option, is not putting this on cd for pre-order, and is limiting the currency somehow too. Whatever the case is, diehard Portishead fans will be glad to see new music coming out sooner than later.
