On Saturday I was lucky enough to see a large amount of the skate industry come together in support of a fallen shredder. Levi Huffman suffered a severe head injury on International Go Skate Day, he was in the ICU for weeks. The reason that so many people came together for Levi is his amazing character. I have a huge amount of respect or Levi, he is the kind of person who will go out of his way to help anyone he can.Like how he takes a group of little skate groms to a different skatepark that they wouldn’t normally have access to each week. Every time I skate with Levi he goes out and teaches someone something new or give them the confidence in themselves to do more than they thought the could. Levi and his fiancée are expecting their first child later this year, he will be an amazing father.On the 12th Board Cartel put together a skate contest along with Woodward to raise money for Levi and his family. The people at Cartel got everyone they could involved and before we knew it there were over 20 sponsors sending product to help Levi.  Product from Circa, Fallen, Mystery, Zero, Black Box, Anon, Nixon, Oakley, Element, RVCA, Bern helmets, Neff, Etnies, and boardpusher.com. 
The local shops, Thirfty Stick, 303 Boards, and Board Room also pitched in and each gave out package of gear for the event.

Brazilian surf pro, Bruno Santos took the win in the final, edging out guys like Mick Fanning, CJ Hobgood and Taj Burrow. According to sources, the event really didn’t go off as expected and the swell was struggling to stay consistent. For more coverage on the event go to billabongpro.com

The Rome SDS and Kids on Shred Productions is proud to announce the second annual “Local Gnar” contest. That’s right, the time has come again to get your crew together and film your local scene. Short films of up to 5 minutes will be accepted by Rome until April 1^st 2008. Videos will be judged by the Rome team and Kids on Shred Productions. Winners will be chosen based on creativity, originality, and an overall inclusion of the themes that make Rome and the original “Gnar” video great. All video entrants will be competing for a chance to win $1,000 and load of new Rome product.
Local Gnar is evolving in 07-08, becoming it’s own section on the Rome website. With the launch of Shred TV on the Rome site, local crews can submit their videos for broadcast on the ShredTV page, and for selection to be featured on Rome’s homepage. The Local Gnar Contest is also back for it’s second year, with cash and product prizes.
