Levi Love - Benefit Skate Contest

Levi Love - Benefit Skate Contest

On Saturday I was lucky enough to see a large amount of the skate industry come together in support of a fallen shredder. Levi Huffman suffered a severe head injury on International Go Skate Day, he was in the ICU for weeks. The reason that so many people came together for Levi is his amazing character. I have a huge amount of respect or Levi, he is the kind of person who will go out of his way to help anyone he can.Like how he takes a group of little skate groms to a different skatepark that they wouldn’t normally have access to each week. Every time I skate with Levi he goes out and teaches someone something new or give them the confidence in themselves to do more than they thought the could. Levi and his fiancée are expecting their first child later this year, he will be an amazing father. On the 12th Board Cartel put together a skate contest along with Woodward to raise money for Levi and his family. The people at Cartel got everyone they could involved and before we knew it there were over 20 sponsors sending product to help Levi.  Product from Circa, Fallen, Mystery, Zero, Black Box, Anon, Nixon, Oakley, Element, RVCA, Bern helmets, Neff, Etnies, and boardpusher.com
The local shops, Thirfty Stick, 303 Boards, and Board Room also pitched in and each gave out package of gear for the event.

Go Skate Day - Denver

I know this is a little late but finally found the time to post these photos.

Boardpusher held a comp at Denver park for Go Skate Day, it was a blast. The sun was blasting and so were the shredders.
First up is the Pro/Am comp in the peanut bowl (9ft)

trespassing and transitions

Been skating everyday after work, best thing to get you through the day. I have a few photos to share.
On Memorial day we were setting up at the Golden Mill which is a feed store in downtown. It’s not a huge spot but a good place to warm up. After about three attempts the cops roll in. Happy Memorial day. Two filmers, Ian and I were ticketed for trespassing. Which brought Ian to an  all time high of four tickets in one week.

The sunsets have been pretty good for the last few days so we decided to do some shooting around that time. We were a bit late but had a blast on this little known mini. It’s amazing to skate this ramp, especially once it starts to cool down.

Crested Butte Trip 08′

Crested Butte Trip 08'

Forum rider, Scottie Kees, videographer, Jameson Walter and myself headed to Crested Butte in March of 08′ to film some back counrty goodness. When we arrived we met up with locals, Austin Gibney and Brady Farr. We had the entire week to take sleds out and explore the endless features that Crested Butte had to offer.

Scottie Kees(front) and Austin Gibney(back) gearing up the sleds at Lake Irwin.
With our local guides, we set out early Monday morning. With great weather on our side, the possibilities were limitless. We ventured out, spotting lines and other features, but decided that some of the conditions we’re unstable due to the amount of snow Crested Butte had seen so far(a record amount). So we settled with a step down that the locals had done the season before. With good light and good conditions and just about no set up time needed, it was on.

Spring in the Rockies

I was up at Breck for the last few days since they have shut all the lifts down as of Sunday afternoon. It could not have been better, going from 2 feet of blower pow on tuesday to perfect slushy spring time shredding by the weekend. Saturday was action packed all day, I did a bit of shooting with Colin Spencer who was wrapping up his park filming for the season. Alex Martini pulled some amazing in-air video work.
Shame they are closing with full coverage, prime parks and perfect pipe. Until next year.

April Fools

April Fools

April 1st at Breckenridge has become a huge party day for all the local shreds. Its sick to see the whole snowboard scene together on one day having what seems the most fun you could have on the mountain. Hunting down a good set of retro gear, setting you stance back, maybe cutting a swallow tail, spraying everyone and everything in sight, and slashing like all the old school shredders is what its all about.
We were on the hill pretty early, the local holiday was still pretty low key but there was a good foot of fresh to be had. We headed directly for the T-bar and Imperial lift. After a short hike (around some very winded Welsh blokes) we had reached the summit of peak 8 with open powder fields in all directions. Once we had exhausted the new snow and some clouds rolled in we blasted our way to Park Lane. We were immediately surrounded by neon and snowblades, it was chaos. Constant soul trains with 2-4 people on a lip at any time, spread eagles, and the all mighty method were being thrown with screams of delight.
It was getting pretty dangerous in the park, after seeing more than a few wrecks we were thinking of calling it. Breck beat us to it. Soon the parks were closed to anyone wearing a “costume” and therefore empty except for the a few steezy shreders here and there, apparently the resort was not as stoked as the rest of us. Didn’t stick around to see the “gapers” unleashed on the rest of the mountain.

Hot Pow

A few riders and I drove down to Red Mountain pass to grab a few shots. Turned out that the snow was really baked. We managed to salvage a few spots before Jeff (Cormack) took a hit to the knee. With Partly torn LCL we drove back home.

going back to church

I had the chance to go back to the church rail that we did earlier this season, I tried to step it up this time. The snow literally melted out from underneath us as the sesh wore on. Fun one( click images to see larger)

denver's longest run

Last night I met a few shredders at Ruby Hill, near downtown denver. I haven’t actually ridden the free park yet. Ruby’s goal is to make snowboarding accessible to more people. Its working, there are a lot of  beginners shredding the boxes, they will have a great head start when they take it to the slopes. Ruby is like a gym for jibbing, I have never learned so much in so little time. I took the camera out after the lights shut down at 9pm. (the park is open till 11 though)
