Atmosphere, the independent hip hop group, has done something really cool. Instead of just whining and complaining about the music industry not making money on cd sales, the record label and himself made things a little more creatively. This video shows how a unique idea can create interest in picking up a hard copy of the record, rather than just the mp3’s or whatever. I’m not making a whole lot of sense, but this video shows why you might want to pick up the new Atmosphere record, instead of downloading it.

You can stream the whole new Thrice record(s) by checking out the band’s official myspace. For those of you that don’t know about the Alchemy Index, it is a collection of 4 cd’s at regular price, and it mixes a lot of different styles together to form a powerhouse, landmark record, that is the exact opposite of what bands are doing in the position that rivals Thrice in any way, shape or form. Stream the full project now, buy the records, they aren’t over priced, and enjoy the sound of creativity.

The DVS skate team are going to give it all away! They are going to be releasing a dvd to skate shops and for streaming online for you all to see. You’ll have to wait until May 5th, however, it’s going to be a great video and should once again showcase the best of the best from the DVS skateboarding team, ripping it. At least get stoked for a new Daewon part!

It’s not secret that Iron Maiden has been one of the front runners in Metal music for a long time now. While other people int he metal genre (metallica) have been known to get old and stale, and hire shrinks to write lyrics for them, we can trust that Iron Maiden is still kicking out the jams.

With this latest collaboration with Vans shoes, they bring another relic alive, and look to crossover their appeal for music and culture with reckless abandon. These shoes will hit stores roughly around “Holiday 08″ and are already the talk of metal maniacs worldwide.

Finest Dearest
Self-titled
Bloodtown Records
The rocking prowess of this San Francisco quartet is the result of gambit basement jams a few years back. After a few lineup adjustments, Finest Dearest is now equipped to release a notable album with a blasting vocal front courtesy of Carly Schneider. Clean and convinced, this band is obviously still new, yet reminds me of a Sleater-Kinney/Belly/Breeders mashup. As far as lyrics, there are a few witty remarks and plenty of chic prose, but this element comes off as secondary to the instrumentation, which is highly studio-processed. The final word is that these folks have packaged some refreshing rock for you to discover. – Kelly D. Williams, Mannerist Zine

Apparently Serj Tankian has seen Star Wars way too much! He has a plan to save the world that consists of holographic media performances, rather than going on tour.
I for one, will NOT under any circumstances pay for a hologram of anyone playing anything. I’d rather feel the connection with my fellow music lover at a venue, sweat it out, and sing along with my favorite bands, and artists.
I know Serj is thinking about the whole global warming thing, but this just seems a bit far fetched. One thing is for sure, Serj Tankian, has managed to pop up in major news sources like yahoo.com, if that is even viable any longer. Star Wars eh? I’m sure I got the geeks to check in now, too bad it’s metal related.
Roughly 5 days after the X Games committee announced that they killed off vert, it’s back from the dead! Vert skaters are trully rejoicing everywhere! Maybe they will add some flair to vert this year and get the skaters pulling antics like the image below. That could really bring vert back to the pop status that X Games is seeking…

Did the Man above have a helping hand in this resurrection or was it just the X Games General Manager, Chris Stiepock? Well you be the judge but it was interesting to hear what Mister Stiepock said about this whole ordeal…
“The X Games has always had a commitment to the athletes and our consistent communication with them has allowed us to collectively grow this event to where it is today,” said Chris Stiepock, General Manager, X Games. “In this particular case the communication took many turns but a consensus by the athletes has emerged that has lead us to reinstate Vert as an X Games discipline this year. We will continue to work with the athletes to make the X Games relevant and successful.”
Nice move X Games, way to listen to the people and the actual skaters! Welcome back to life and hopefully you will be around a few more years. Can’t wait to see what Shaun White, Bob, Bucky and PLG have up their sleeves this year. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

How strong is your edge? StraightEdge! Ok, so I’m not the greatest writer of puns or anything, but the edge movement that was started way back in the 80’s might be on the radar of the mainstream media, with a new television documentary airing tonight via the National Geographic Channel. Check local listings for times and replays.

Less Than Jake has recently announced a tour with the likes of Big D and the Kids Table, Goldfinger and more. The band has released this latest tourdates which routes their trek. Although, there is no Seattle tourdates, which saddens me.

The Deftones announced recently that they will be entering “the studio” to record a new record next week. The Deftones last album wasn’t exactly the highest grossing album for the nu-metal band, and we have no word on a new “Team Sleep” record, but this is good news for Deftones fans, itching for new material.
