I was up at Breck for the last few days since they have shut all the lifts down as of Sunday afternoon. It could not have been better, going from 2 feet of blower pow on tuesday to perfect slushy spring time shredding by the weekend. Saturday was action packed all day, I did a bit of shooting with Colin Spencer who was wrapping up his park filming for the season. Alex Martini pulled some amazing in-air video work.

Shame they are closing with full coverage, prime parks and perfect pipe. Until next year.

Well we have seen what skateboard reality tv can do, now why not give skateboard-related rap a listen? Fly Society, the new rap group that includes Pro Skateboarder Terry Kennedy, newcomer, “Hit”, and former Lil Wayne affiliate, Currens$y, have released a new song and video called “Fresh”.

Watch the video below and notice the cameo by P-RodGorecki and Jereme Rogers. Makes you wonder what this will do as far as giving more exposure to Skateboarding, and if it’s a good thing. One thing is for sure, Kr3w is stoked

April Fools

April 1st at Breckenridge has become a huge party day for all the local shreds. Its sick to see the whole snowboard scene together on one day having what seems the most fun you could have on the mountain. Hunting down a good set of retro gear, setting you stance back, maybe cutting a swallow tail, spraying everyone and everything in sight, and slashing like all the old school shredders is what its all about.

We were on the hill pretty early, the local holiday was still pretty low key but there was a good foot of fresh to be had. We headed directly for the T-bar and Imperial lift. After a short hike (around some very winded Welsh blokes) we had reached the summit of peak 8 with open powder fields in all directions. Once we had exhausted the new snow and some clouds rolled in we blasted our way to Park Lane. We were immediately surrounded by neon and snowblades, it was chaos. Constant soul trains with 2-4 people on a lip at any time, spread eagles, and the all mighty method were being thrown with screams of delight.

It was getting pretty dangerous in the park, after seeing more than a few wrecks we were thinking of calling it. Breck beat us to it. Soon the parks were closed to anyone wearing a “costume” and therefore empty except for the a few steezy shreders here and there, apparently the resort was not as stoked as the rest of us. Didn’t stick around to see the “gapers” unleashed on the rest of the mountain.

If you are going to buy one book this year it should be Faces of Skateboarding. Faces of Skateboarding was created by Swedish Photographer, Daniel Mansson. Mansson travelled for two years to create this awesome collection of 50 portraits capturing some of the world’s most influential Skateboarders such as Tony Hawk, Danny Way, Jason Lee, Eric Koston, Tom Penny and  a bunch of others. The book is 160 pages and is sure to give you some motivation to go skate.

Here are a few shots from Faces of Skateboarding:

Daniel Mansson definitely has raw, documentary-portrait style, using using sharp contrasts and natural moody lighting. Mansson is a advertising, press and skateboard photographer, located in Stockholm and Los Angeles.

When a friend of mine asked if I was interested in a road trip to out to California for a week, “hell yeah.” The plan was to leave friday morning and stop at Aspen’s big air event they hold at 3:00pm on fridays. Mark (Hoyt) and Colin (Spencer) were going to try to take the event and some extra cash for the trip. Turned out the locals made it to finals. We stopped at a bridge on the way out of town to see if it would be possible to hit real quick. We all agreed that after they both got a nose press we would roll out. They both landed the press after a few tries and started the switch press attempts. Colin came off the rail and caught his chin on his way down to the icy water. “we can go and get you stitches or get some glue and fix it right here, your choice.” Next Mark is on a quick trip to the kiwk-e-mart for some superglue and hydrogen-peroxide and soon enough we had the bleeding stopped and chin back together. On to Grand Junction.

We stayed the night in Grand Junction, picked up Bret a filmer for Cuff Productions. On the way we stopped at a random little town which was full of snow. Turned out there was a sweet little kink at the local Chiropractor’s office. Colin Landed a front board and we were off to stay the night in Reno.  As we pulled into town we were in the middle of a 48hour storm, I have never seen snow flakes so big.

The next day we found a truck buried near a local mountain and gave it a good slashing with the help of our truck, it was still snowing into the night. We woke up to a perfect day, sprint to the backcountry…I wish. We got up there late but found some amazing cliffs and a few spots that would fill the next few days. The guys we were staying with had built a quarter-pipe, using the roof of the house as a drop in. Pretty fun to be able to sesh all night and work with the light and riders without worrying about getting booted.  TJZ-aspen-bridge-93TJZ-aspen-bridge-148TJZ-aspen-bridge-13TJZ-aspen-bridge-39TJZ-tahoe--19TJZ-tahoe--36TJZ-tahoe--144TJZ-tahoe--1024TJZ-tahoe--1061TJZ-tahoe--1106TJZ-tahoe--2094TJZ-tahoe--3086

Two of my bros and I took off for a short trip down south. The snow down there will make you regret wasting time at resorts. Lift lines, gapers, traffic; didn’t miss any of it. I cut a board into a swallow tail the night before we left, if you have an old deck collecting dust somewhere I would defiantly recommend grabbing a hack saw and cutting it down. It will give you as many face shots as you can take. The weather was amazing for photos, bluebird everyday.  Getting out of town and experiencing something new could never get old and if you do it right it wont cost to much. For under $200 each we were shredding powder for four days straight. If you do one thing this winter grab your two favorite alleys and go get lost. lets go get lost. TJZ-durango-676Engineer SunsetTJZ-durango-687TJZ-durango-472Durango - (65 of 119)TJZ-durango-41TJZ-durango-410

been a little low on sleep, last night Colin, Kyle and I met up with Derek and Austin for a little seshn downtown. It was amazing to be able to shoot in jeans and shoes. not boots.. low tops, thank you global warming. it went pretty smooth until Derek went down on a 5-0, he was knocked out long enough to end the seshn. By 1:30 im on my way home and pulled over for swerving…”is there any reason i should smell alcohol?” well no but im the only one on the road so i thought the of the stripes as guides rather than the law. Lucky for me he got another call and ripped away quick enough to shout thank you and have a nice day as he threw my license back in the window. today i woke up early for some sun at breck and to shred with Nick (Larson) before he leaves for Laax and the Euro Open on friday. Best park day yet.TJZ-denver-351TJZ-denver-366-2TJZ-denver-376TJZ-breck-386TJZ-breck-394TJZ-breck-453
