So my name is Laura Austin, I am an 18-year-old girl living in Vermont. Trust me there is a lot more to Vermont than just cows and maple syrup, the snowboard industry is booming out here. Big wigs like Burton and Rome are based out of Vermont and so are up and coming companies like eesa. Where do I fit into all this? I am a designer. I work for Darkside Snowboard Shop and eesa doing design work. I've also done projects with Burton, Oakley, Dean "Blotto" Gray and many other brands. I am just a girl who loves snowboarding, design, and photography and I am stoked that I am able to combine those passions.

August 30th & 31st Darkside Snowboard Shop will be throwing a pre season kick off at their Killington shop. Pre season already? You know how Darkside does it, we are always ahead of the curve. Anyway if you are in the area you should come down, get some jibbing in, eat some food, and get in on the tent sale. Hope to see you there.

A little while ago eesa’s team rider Tim Humphries stopped by the offices here at eesa to do a photoshoot for the upcoming catalog. We paired Tim up with eesa’s new Arcade sock so what better place to do a photoshoot than an arcade? We ventured into Burlington to hit up Pizza Putt, the pictures can explain the rest of the story. After a while we ended up with a couple hundred tickets which was enough to get a rather large bag of Tootsie Rolls. We were stoked. Then we proceeded to play a few holes of mini golf. It was Agatha, Jules, and I against Tim. We won by a long shot. A big thanks to Tim for playing along all day and winning us that bag of Tootsie Rolls.

What happens when you pack a bunch of people who love to party into a house right on the lake during 4th of July weekend? Pure chaos. It was a weekend full of drinking, boating, slip and sliding… the list goes on.

Red Bull and Embasi hosted a Manny Mania skate contest in Manchester, NH on June 28th. This contest celebrated Embasi’s grand opening of their Manchester store. It was a manual contest with a three part manny pad (flatbox, up down, and step down). Around 60 skaters competed in the event. Dillon Buss ended up winning the event and a VIP trip to the Manny Mania contest in NYC plus a bunch of swag. All photos by me. Shout out to Mary Walsh who organized the event and Lotus Entertainment for spinning records.

So I recently decided I needed a fisheye lens, but I didn’t know which lens to get. So who would be better to ask than Dean Blotto Grey? I asked him and he highly recommended the Canon 15mm Fisheye 2.8 lens. He claimed this was the ONE if I wanted a fisheye lens. So I looked around and it retailed for around $630.00. More than I was willing to pay at the moment. So Blotto decided to sell me his for a pretty damn good price. I have had it for a week now and am in love. I just have to careful not to overuse because too many fisheye shots can get old fast.
Here is a shot Blotto took with the lens of Jones in Utah.
And here is one of my shots with the lens of a good friend Ebo.

So clearly I have some work to do to catch up with the quality of Blotto’s shots, but he should watch his back. I am stoked on the lens and recommend it to anyone looking for a fisheye. And a shout out to Blotto for hooking it up. Check out his site to see what he has been up to.
Stowe Resort in Vermont threw down on Saturday May 24th. They gathered all the snow left over from the halfpipe and set up an impressive 9 features for a rail jam including a crazy new C Box, a dance floor, and many of other boxes and rails. It was 70 degrees, clear skies, and everyone was stoked to be able to get a little more riding in. Matt Beck from Burton announced the event and Lotus Entertainment’s DJs Russell and DJ provided the music. If you want to see all the pictures I took go here.

So Burton has this program called Shopgirl. It is a community to connect all the girls working in snowboard shops across the country. Anyway, they decided to do interviews of girls they thought were worthy of writing about. These chose me as their first victim. Check it out.
